CBT is a combination of cognitive therapy which examines unwanted thoughts, attitudes and beliefs and behavioural therapy which focuses on behaviour in response to those thoughts.
CBT is based on the belief that most unhealthy modes of thinking and behaving have been learnt over a long period of time. Using a set of structured techniques we are able the patient to identify his/her thinking that causes problematic feelings and behaviours and to accept emotional responsibility.
CBT aims to help people challenge their negative beliefs and to adopt a more positive outlook. The aim of CBT therefore is to provide the patient with the insight and skills to improve the quality of their life and to provide a framework for ongoing self help once the structured cbt therapy has been completed.
