Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with CBT and EMDR
Before we can treat your Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, we need to have a full understanding of your symptoms. Your recovery begins with a pre-treatment assessment, during which we evaluate the history, original trauma, social factors, family dysfunctionality and any other factors that have maintained or influenced your PTSD.
Your treatment programme will consist of (typically) 8 weekly sessions, each lasting 1 hour. Your treatment will include a combination of EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
EMDR is an integrated therapy comprising an 8-phase treatment that includes the use of eye movement stimulation. EMDR helps trauma survivors reprocess disturbed thoughts and memories.
Why is CBT and hypnotherapy successful at treating PTSD?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR tackle the trauma on a multilevel basis supported by a strong therapeutic alliance between you and your therapist. In addition, controlled exposure to the primary anxiety will assist in bringing about behavioural change and will prevent further relapse.

About Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) frequently arises following a traumatic event beyond the range of ‘normal’ human experience, and usually involves the threat to, or loss of life, e.g. road traffic accidents, personal assault, rape, exposure to and/or witnessing a disaster.
PTSD is symptomatic with the persistent re-experience of the trauma in the form of nightmares, flashbacks and intrusive memories. Other features are depressed mood, anxiety, insomnia, poor concentration, hypervigilance and avoidance.
My life was in a mess, I couldn’t function – I lost my job and felt I had no future. Thanks to you I have my strength back and I have now become successful – life is worth living.
