Insomnia

CBT and hypnotherapy for insomnia

Insomnia treatment from Apex Practice

Insomnia can feel like a nightmare. As the condition deepens, night-time becomes a battleground and sleep becomes ever more elusive. But insomnia is treatable, and the Apex Practice will provide you with a combination of powerful therapies that will get you back to healthy sleeping patterns.

Your recovery begins with a pre-treatment assessment. This allows us to discover the underlying causes of your insomnia. We will consider many factors, including depression, anxiety, diet, exercise, obesity, stress and changes in behaviour.

Following your initial assessment we will plan your course of treatment. Your therapy will consist of 5 weekly sessions (typically), each lasting 1 hour. Treatment includes a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnotherapy.

You will also learn self-hypnosis – a very useful technique to assist relaxation.

Why are CBT and clinical hypnotherapy successful at treating insomnia?

The most effective way of treating insomnia is with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnosis. CBT encourages you to recognise that the thoughts that cause your sleeplessness are irrational and that those thoughts directly influence your emotions, behaviours and physical symptoms.

By adopting this process with the addition of hypnotherapy insomnia can be treated at a conscious and subconscious level.

The power of the therapeutic relationship

At the Apex Practice, our therapists understand the power of the therapeutic alliance – the collaboration between you and your therapist that unites you in a shared goal.

About insomnia

Insomnia is a condition that describes interrupted sleep patterns. It is difficult to define what is ‘normal’ because sleep varies from person to person. There are, however, four main difficulties:

  1. Difficulty getting to sleep
  2. Interrupted sleep
  3. Waking too early in the morning
  4. Not feeling refreshed after sleep
