Alcoholism
Overcome alcohol addiction with CBT
You saved my life – I was in the depths of despair – I had lost my job and all self respect. I can’t ever thank you enough. – Catherine A, West London
CBT and hypnotherapy for alcoholism
Before we treat your alcohol dependency we will discover the underlying causes. During a comprehensive pre-treatment assessment we determine the history and nature of your alcoholism, the underlying causes and trigger points.
Your treatment will combine Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnosis, normally over a course of 12 sessions, each lasting 1 hour.
Follow-up monitoring sessions prevent relapse by reinforcing your goals and helping you to maintain realistic targets.
Why is hypnotherapy and CBT successful at treating alcoholism?
Our approach, combining CBT and clinical hypnosis emphasises your capacity to exercise control and to accept personal responsibility. We focus on factors such as: ambivalence about change; difficult behaviours such as non-compliance and powerful cravings.
Another reason that our combined hypnotherapy and CBT treatment for alcohol addiction is so successful is that it tackles your addiction on both the conscious and subconscious level.
The power of the therapeutic relationship
The therapeutic relationship between the therapist and patient is crucial in achieving success. At the Apex Practice you will be treated individually and not in a group context. It is this therapeutic alliance that will underpin and encourage your motivation.
About alcoholism
Alcoholism typically has two components: the physical and psychological dependency. There are certain physiological changes which take place as a result of drinking alcohol. There is also an emotional need for alcohol because it decreases feelings of tension, stress and anxiety.
Alcohol abuse has been on the increase in past years specifically within the adolescent age range. Cheap alcohol combined with the nightclub and dance culture of contemporary times has made heavy drinking socially acceptable. When consumption goes beyond normal parameters it then becomes difficult to manage and can spiral out of control.
